Installing a Google Sites template
Activating a Seasalt Studio theme template.
Templates in Google Sites are different to WordPress and Squarespace. They're not an easily downloadable or exportable set of data items and values which can be imported to a website project.
There is a way to migrate or copy a theme, indeed a whole website, from one user to another, by following a fairly straightforward process. This guide is written from the perspective of a customer who's just purchased a Google Sites theme from us.
You've purchased a template. Now what?
After purchasing a theme you'll get an email from us confirming the Gmail address where you want the template and theme installed. Once you've confirmed, we will create a copy the new theme and template and share it with the Gmail address you provided. This can take up to 24 hours.
Check your Gmail account
In your Gmail account there will be an email informing you that you have been given access (ownership) of a Google Site. This is the Google Site structure, with template, that you'll use to build your website. You can either use that Site, or copy it and create a new one (recommended).
2. Open the Google Site
Double click on the link to the Site in your email and the Site will open in the Google Sites editor. You will also see it in the root of your Google Drive. That's where you'll access it from in future. This is where you will publish the site from and make all your changes. (NB - Google's instructions on publishing and sharing).
3. Copy the Google Site (optional)
At the top right, click the 3 vertical dots next to the 'Publish' button and select the 'Make a copy' option. The 'Copy site' box will pop up and there are a couple of options:
Give the new Site a meaningful name
Select the appropriate access optiond (recommend leave as default)
Make sure 'Entire site' is selected, then click OK
Your site will be copied and you'll be emailed a confirmation when it's complete. (Google Sites does this, not us). When your site is copied you'll be able to edit content to suit your need! We don't have access to your site and it's yours to do with as you wish.
